We are looking forward to another successful year
New Membership Year
Dear MEHG Member,
Our AGM on 22nd October went well and we enjoyed a spellbinding talk by Allison Dixon about our region's critically endangered ringtailed possums.
We’re looking forward to another productive year with new blood on the committee.
Our next monthly meeting is this Monday 11th November at 4.00pm at Make Place.
Members - and potential members - are always welcome to our meetings which are held on the 2nd Monday of the month.
Membership of Mandurah Environment & Heritage Group is free!
To comply with our association's rules, we need to check whether or not you wish to continue as a member. Please let us know whether or not you’d like to renew your membership of Mandurah Environment & Heritage Group for 2020.

Point Grey - Please sign the Petition

At the beginning of October the State Administrative Tribunal considered the Point Grey marina proposal, which includes the construction of a 2.5 kilometre navigation channel across the Peel-Harvey Estuary which scientists believe will compromise the already fragile health of the estuary. The tribunal upheld the Shire of Murray's decision because the proponents did not have the necessary change of use approvals in place.

Environmental groups say dolphins, sea mullet, migratory birds and the region’s prized blue manna crabs are all under threat from the project.
Canning MP Andrew Hastie is campaigning to halt the development. “We do not want to see the estuary destroyed, we don’t want to see habitats and local marine species damaged, especially our crabs. It’s our job to protect and preserve these wonderful things in our environment.”
You can oppose the Point Grey Dredge by signing our Federal MP’s petition.
Mr Hastie is backed by state Labor MPs David Templeman and Robyn Clarke, and Liberal member for Dawesville Zak Kirkup. The City of Mandurah and the Shire of Murray are also against the project.
Peel-Harvey Catchment Council chief executive Jane O’Malley said the development would be a catastrophe for the waterway and wetlands. “If you dig a hole in our estuary, it will fill with toxic black ooze. Long term, it will be devastating. We believe this is the single biggest threat to the estuary.”

Luca's Legacy
Dolphin lovers everywhere were saddened when Luca died as a result of repeatedly becoming entangled in fishing line.
But Luca did not die in vain. His death has triggered an upsurge in waterways clean-ups with many young people participating. Read more courtesy of the ABC.
