Plant a Tree for the Queen's Jubilee
A Commemorative Ceremony
On 3 November the Hon. Andrew Hastie MP unveiled a commemorative plaque by the Riverside Boat Ramp in Greenfields to celebrate the planting of hundreds of trees in the Mandurah area to increase habitat and food for the survival of native flora and fauna, in particular endangered species such as the Carnaby’s black cockatoo.

Theo Kearing performed Welcome to Country and introduced the Bindjareb Middars troupe whose animal dances were accompanied by a didgeridoo player.
MEHG Chairman Jacob Cumberworth thanked all the volunteers who helped to plant and mulch the trees, and who have committed to watering them, including the John Tonkin Bush Rangers,
Men of the Trees (Peel Branch) and local residents.

This planting is ongoing and has been made possible by funding from the Australian Government’s Planting Trees for the Queen’s Jubilee program to create a legacy of tree plantings across the nation to increase canopy cover to improve biodiversity and to provide natural shade in our urban environment.
Councillor Daniel Wilkins, representing the Mayor, announced that the City of Mandurah had agreed to enter into a three-year partnership with MEHG to continue our Mandurah Nature Trails project to engage the community in restoring, enhancing and linking Mandurah's nature reserves for the benefit of the community and wildlife.

"These year 10 John Tonkin College students were involved in planting some of the banksias as part of the Bushranger Cadet Duke of Ed program.
The cadets have loved working on the Mandurah Nature Trails project and intend to volunteer their services in the future."

"It is inspiring to see what a big difference a group of dedicated people can make towards restoring our environment.
May the animals and plants thrive there whilst people enjoy a
very special place."
